Mission Statement

We created the Central Bellydance School to give students an organized way to learn oriental dance. Our curriculum is planned so that classes, confidence, and skills build on each other while preserving the unique flavor of raqs sharqi/oryantal dans and avoiding the sterilizing influence of standardization that is so antithetical to this diverse folk dance.

We believe in honoring the cultures these dances come from. To that end, we work to form one side of the cultural bridge, and to bring in native MENAHT teachers whenever possible. We also believe in diversity, and welcome dancers from all backgrounds who are interested in learning with an open heart and respectful mind.

Most of all, we believe in the power of fun and friendship! Just like the movements of raqs sharqi restore muscle balances in the body, the playful nature of gathering with friends and enjoying the dance restores an emotional balance. Come dance with us!

Meet our Team

Central BellyDance School is a team effort between Lisa Lumina (primary teacher) and Liz, aka Emerald Starling

Lisa Lumina

Teacher
I started teaching because I wanted people to dance with, and kept teaching because I love to help dancers build confidence in themselves through gaining confidence in their dancing.
I'm a synthesizer, and believe it is the teachers job to build skills up like rungs on a ladder for students to climb.

Social Director
As a dancer and teacher, I believe dance is for every body.
I strive to provide an inclusive environment where dancers can express themselves through the joy of dance, and can learn new ways to engage the mind and body through the unique experience of group improvisational belly dance.
